Via Dohn:
UCLA’s football practice is over, long before it was supposed to as the players decided to use a long-time tradition and blow off practice after stretching by going over the wall [at spaulding field].
UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel knows of the tradition, but basically said it was an odd time for it considering UCLA is installing a new offense and the offensive line needs loads of work.
Also, a number of high school coaches and recruits showed up for the practice, not to mention some referees.
So, there’s like…what 15 practices in spring? There’s a new coach, a new system, a QB controversy…and this is how their spending MY taxes???
AWESOME! Seriously, thats hilarious. Props. But don’t do it again

I appreciate the idea of tradition and college rebellion, but come on guys, we have a new offense to install (not to mention assembling an offensive line that doesn’t resemble the Maginot Line). I sure hope that summer workouts and “elective” drills are well attended. We are looking at an SEC top-2-team on Sept. 1. The NCAA limits these organized practices and to give one up is like missing a Pint Night at Strattons with a bunch of 19 year olds. Sure you might hook up with a bartender at Maloney’s, next week, but why give up a sure thing. OK I will now go to hell.

To play devil’s advocate, the RS seniors have been putting up with a new offense installation 4 of the last 5 years, so new “offensive scheme” as a deterent to ditch day is probably not all that effective….

And 4 of those last 5 years the results have been…..

Dont worry, Slick Rick will have your crappy Bruins in the crosshairs of the NVAA soon enough, then you will be remembering the good ol days of Dorrell.
You will love porbabtion and no bowls, then again it probably isnt much of change from where they are at right now

Not good, admittedly. But that hadn’t stop the previous Srs from Ditch Day.

This is about the dumbest tradition I’ve ever heard of. It really makes me scratch my head. And how had I never heard of it prior to this year? Any wonder why we haven’t been a dominant program? Who the heck has a tradition like this?

[...] tradition that the team sucks, and the two go hand-in-hand. Though it’s old news by now as it happened on Tuesday, I never really got my chance to take a stab at this. What kind of team has a tradition where they [...]
